Museo Sant’Orsola Firenze – Curated by Morgane Lucquet Laforgue
05/09/2025 – 04/01/2026
Shubha Taparia is fascinated by the constant transformation of the urban landscape and the changes that objects and places undergo over time. She chose to intervene at Sant’Orsola precisely because of its state of transition. Gold leaf, a symbolic material that recurs throughout her practice, alters the perception of space and enhances its liminal dimension. Applied to walls, floors, and hidden corners, it evokes an Indian cosmological vision in which there is no hierarchy between high and low, beginning and end. The technique used, inspired by the tradition of gilded backgrounds, involves a meticulous process of preparation, gilding, and fixing. In this way, gold becomes a bridge between eras and cultures, a symbol of light, regeneration, and cyclical harmony.
Shubha Taparia’s work is made possible by the support of Calliope Arts – London.
