Industrial Meditation | Silhouette of an Unknown Landscape – UNIT 7 – London

Drawing together aesthetic and aural appreciation, this event invited members of the public to contemplate the recently unveiled installation Silhouette of an Unknown Landscape with an accompanying sound piece. Created with scaffolding and other construction materials, that sit 6 meters above the studio floor, the work covers almost the entire ceiling of the industrial warehouse space. Chosen for their individual aesthetic value and for the role they play in the visual melody, the elements form a single fictional landscape illuminated from within.

Continuing Taparia’s longstanding engagement with everyday, construction materials the accompanying sound piece combines recordings of different urban centres from around the world to unveil the beauty of the mundane. Created specifically for the event, the soundtrack encourages visitors to wander and meditate beneath the installation. Working with the striking imagery of shadow and light, it provokes a contemplative state through rhythmic harmonies, counterpoints, crescendos and moments of quiet.
