Shubha Taparia’s work Transitional Weaves 1 (Illumination series) (2022) was acquired by the Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Asian Art Museum), Staatliche Museen zu Berlin at the Humboldt Forum, Berlin, and is on display in the Museum’s galleries.
“The idea of continuous conversions plays a key role in the work of Indian-born artist Shubha Taparia. Taparia’s works playfully overcome genre boundaries through various forms of transformations. In this work, she remodels two-dimensional industrial fabric that is often used on building sites. With the help of resin, it becomes a sculptural landscape. The extensive application of composition gold (a copper-zinc alloy) transforms the everyday material into something precious and sacred. Light refracts on the moving, three-dimensional structure and the hand-applied metal leaf in ever-changing ways, depending on the angle of view, as in a mountain landscape in the evening light. Everything seems to be in constant motion, just like life itself.”
